The international student competition “Students4Kids – Together against Hidden Hunger” is a project of the Assmann Foundation for Prevention in cooperation with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (hereinafter: F.A.Z.). The competition processing will be handled by the project office at Helliwood media & education im Förderverein für Jugend und Sozialarbeit e.V. (hereinafter: Helliwood), Marchlewskistraße 27, 10243 Berlin. The following terms and conditions exclusively apply to participation in this competition.
1. Eligibility and conditions of participation
1.1 Participation is free of charge and irrespective of the acquisition of goods or services. By taking part in the competition, the participants agree to the present terms and conditions.
1.2. A person may participate by either entering their own project idea (“active participation,” see 1.4) or by supporting another’s project idea with a vote (“passive participation,” see 1.5)
1.3. Participation is open to students of any university discipline at higher education institutions in Germany, Switzerland and Ivory Coast.
Employees of F.A.Z., the Assmann Foundation for Prevention and Helliwood, their family members or other persons involved in the conception and implementation of this competition are excluded from participation. The competition participant shall be the authorized holder of the e-mail address given upon entry into the competition. Minors are not eligible to enter.
1.4. Active participation requires that the participant presents a written outline of his or her project idea using the provided application form at www.students4kids.org, submitting the form completely filled out in German or English language to email@example.com. Since the competition is explicitly addressed to students, a certificate of enrollment has to be handed in, which may also be submitted subsequently. The participant must also provide a title for their project. The participant must also provide their first and last name, their e-mail address and the name of their university (neither e-mail nor university name will be made public). After formal submission of the project idea, the project shall be released by the Assmann Foundation for Prevention at the beginning of the voting phase (see below, 2.2) on the webpage www.students4kids.org. After publication, the participant may not make any further changes to their entry. Each person may only take active part in the competition once, i.e., they may only enter one project idea.
1.5. Passive participation takes place through the casting of one vote for one project idea on the webpage www.students4kids.org during the voting phase. Each person may support each project idea one time per day. Once a vote is cast, it cannot be withdrawn.
1.6. The verification of the participant’s or winner’s identity is expressly reserved. Misrepresentation of a participant with regard to his or her identity as well as the measures taken by a participant deemed suitable to deceive regarding the operations described in the present terms and conditions, to distort or interfere with said terms and conditions or any corresponding attempt to do so will result in the exclusion of the participant from the competition and the nullification of any prize Claims.
2. Implementation of idea competition
2.1. Submissions: Upon start of the competition a participation entry form will be released via the online platform at www.students4kids.org and www.faz.net/student4kids . The entry shall include an outline of the project idea to be entered in the provided form, which will be made available in English and German. Project idea entry and the upload phase begins Februar 1, 2017 and ends on May 14, 2017 at 11:59 pm. Only projects that have been entered via e-mail by this date and fulfill the present terms and conditions shall take part in the competition. The project partners reserve the right to check all uploaded submissions within 2 working days and to exclude a contribution if necessary in accordance with paragraph 5. Late entries, regardless of reason for the delay, shall not be taken into account in the jury’s selection. The Assmann Foundation for Prevention and the F.A.Z. shall not be held liable for technical errors whatsoever, in particular failures of the following kind: telephone line, network, electronic or computer, or any other circumstances that lead to delayed receipt of a participation entry.
2.2. Voting phase: The voting phase shall start on May 8, 2017 and ends on May 21, 2017 at 11:59 pm. During the voting phase, passive participants cast votes for one project idea. Passive participation is only possible during the voting phase. If, contrary to these terms and conditions, a project idea is entered multiple times or a participant takes active part more than once, the only votes that count shall be those for the first published project idea. Votes for following project ideas shall not be taken into account. After conclusion of the voting phase, the number of votes shall be incorporated in the assessment of project ideas by the jury.
2.3. First jury assessment: After the voting phase, project ideas shall be reviewed by a jury (consisting of representatives of the Assmann Foundation for Prevention as well as employees of the F.A.Z., Helliwood and voluntary experts) by June 2, 2017. A number of the best projects shall be selected, depending on the number of submitted ideas (max. ten). The results of the voting (see 2.2.) are taken into account in the jury’s first selection. The finalists shall be notified upon selection promptly via e-mail with the information provided upon entry for the competition. The finalist must confirm in writing within one week at the latest after receipt of the notification and provide the necessary information for further contact. Otherwise, the project partners are entitled to determine a new finalist.
2.4. Concept phase: From June 12 through August 27, 2017, the selected students (finalists) shall be tasked with developing their entry ideas into concrete. For this purpose, the finalists will receive an individual feedback as well as a structuring as guidance for their concept.
2.5. Second jury assessment: After completing the concept, the finalists’ documentation will be screened by the jury (see 2.3) until September 10, 2017. Based on this assessment, three teams are invited by the project partners to present their concepts in a pitch at the Summit. The invited teams will be informed by e-mail as soon as they are identified, using the information/contact data given during the registration for the competition. The teams have to confirm receipt of the notification in written manner without delay, latest after one week. Otherwise the project partners are entitled to invite another team.
2.6. Preparation of the pitch: The three teams, invited by the project partners, will have time to prepare their presentations from September 11, 2017 to September 27, 2017. The initiative provides them with specific requirements regarding the scope and the permitted tools.
2.7. Summit / winner selection: The summit takes place after completion of the presentation. Selected students can participate in person or via videoconference. Here, the students are given the opportunity to elaborate their concept in a pitch before a jury panel. The winner receives funding in the amount of 10,000 euros.
2.8. Implementation: Implementation of the winning concept chosen at the summit shall then be pursued, if necessary with the aid of companies, research institutions, as well as local partners and experts.
2.9. The winners undertake to document the implementation of their project idea with media and make it available to the Assmann Foundation for Prevention, the F.A.Z. and Helliwood, who reserve the right to publish the documentation on their respective webpages.
2.10. Prizes are non-transferable. The winner accepts necessary changes to the prize benefits, which may be dictated by factors outside the control of the competition organizers.
3. Assurance and consent
3.1. Each active participant gives his or her consent with the upload as well as publication of the contents provided by him or her on www.students4kids.org. In the event of winning the competition, the participant gives consent to the publication of his or her first name and the title of their project.
3.2. Each active participant ensures the material they use in no way infringes on the rights of any third party (in particular copyrights, industrial property rights or individual rights) or violates any applicable law. If a third party is involved, the participant is obliged to obtain the necessary consent of said third party. The participants are furthermore obliged to note the applicable criminal laws and youth protection regulations and not to distribute or present any content that is racist, pornographic, obscene, offensive or unsuitable for minors. The participant indemnifies the project partners from all claims of third parties due to infringement of their rights.
3.3. With the submission of competition entries, the participants irrevocably grant a non-exclusive right to the use and publication of the documents submitted to the F.A.Z., the Assmann Foundation for Prevention.
The F.A.Z., the Assmann Foundation for Prevention may use, edit and adapt the competition entries without any temporal, spatial and content restrictions, as well as transmit these to third parties – regardless of transmission, carrier and storage technique. There shall be no compensation.
4. Changes to and exclusion from the competition
4.1. The services of the student competition are not negotiable, exchangeable or transferable. Granting of credits or payment of monetary benefits is excluded.
4.2. The F.A.Z., the Assmann Foundation for Prevention reserve the right to replace the services with services of a similar value, provided that services listed cannot be fulfilled, for reasons that are outside the scope Helliwood’s responsibility.

Likewise, the F.A.Z., the Assmann Foundation for Prevention and Helliwood may exclude submissions containing immoral, unlawful, criminal, or criminally or legally liable, or even thematically inappropriate content from the competition.
4.4. Should grounds for exclusion be present, the F.A.Z., the Assmann Foundation for Prevention are authorized – also subsequently – to deny services and recover services already rendered or to demand compensation thereof.
The project partners assume no liability that the promotion page and any links provided are or accurate or fully technically available to the participants. In particular no liability shall be assumed for damage, loss or deletion of data resulting from technical errors or delays, viruses or similar reasons, within the legal limitations.

6.2. With the participation in the competition, the participant declares his or her consent that his or her personal data be stored, used and, where appropriate, forwarded to any cooperation partners by the F.A.Z., the Assmann Foundation for Prevention and Helliwood for the purposes of carrying out the competition (in particular for evaluation, identification and notification of the winner, prize fulfillment). The participant is entitled to revoke this consent at any point during the competition procedure by sending notice via e-mail with the subject heading “Students4Kids – Together against Hidden Hunger” to firstname.lastname@example.org, and thereby withdraw from participating in the competition.
7.1. The F.A.Z., the Assmann Foundation for Prevention are entitled to cancel the competition or change the terms and conditions. This applies in particular for cases of force majeure and in the event that a proper implementation of the competition cannot be guaranteed for technical or legal reasons. Participants shall promptly be given notice via e-mail of any changes to the terms and conditions; a reasonable amount of time is given to the participants within which each may register their objection to the new terms and conditions. The amended terms and conditions shall be considered approved if the participant does not object within the time limit. The participant may refuse his or her consent without substantial reasons.

Any liability for damages to the organizers (F.A.Z., Assmann Foundation for Prevention) as well as their establishments, employees and agents from or in connection with the competition, irrespective of the legal reason, is limited to cases of intent or gross negligence as far as legally permissible.
7.3. Should one provision of these terms and conditions be totally or partly ineffective, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions. An invalid provision is to be replaced with one that is legally possible and as close as possible to the invalid one. The same applies for any regulatory loopholes.
7.4. The law of the Federal Republic of Germany shall apply. 7.5. Legal action is excluded. In case of doubt, the German version of these terms and conditions shall apply.
