Global-Hunger-Index (GHI)

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPI) and the World Hunger Aid publish an annual report on the changes regarding the Global Hunger Index on a global, national and regional level as well as on the causes of such developments.

Thus, the GHI 2014 draws the attention of the global public to the extent of hidden hunger in the world affecting approximately 2 billion people. By subdividing the undernourishment indicator for children under the age of five years with stunting and wasting, the World Hunger Report 2015 takes closer account of hidden hunger.

With an indication of 41.1 points, the Global Hunger Index for Zambia is alarmingly high. Thus, Zambia counts among the three countries of the world suffering most from hidden hunger. The value reflects a total of 47.8% of undernourished children, 40.1% of children suffering from growth retardation and 6% of haggard children under the age of five years as well as 8.7% of children who do not reach the age of five years.
