NutriPhone Tested for Micronutrient Diagnostics
NutriPhones are new, mobile, smartphone-based test systems that are used to determine the vitamin- and cholesterol-status in the blood using optical signals. Only one drop of blood from the finger is needed to visualize chemical reactions on a test strip, which can be evaluated by an app on the basis of a picture taken with the smartphone camera.
US space and nutrition scientists have now succeeded in demonstrating folic acid deficiencies in 12 patients within 15 minutes with the help of NutriPhones.
NutriPhones can and should not replace the current laboratory diagnostics in clinics. However, this tool offers simple support in regions where high-precision measurement technology is not available or not affordable.
