Life Expectancy and Burden of Disease in Ivory Coast
On average, Ivorian men become 57.2 years old while women reach an average age of 61.4 years. The observed life expectancy is about four years less than predicted by the economic potential of the country.
Malaria, HIV, respiratory disease, circulatory disorders, diarrhea and sepsis as well as complications at birth are the most frequent causes in Ivory Coast that lead to premature death. Many health problems are caused by iron deficiency anemia.
Many of these diseases and deaths can be avoided by prevention. The Atlas of the Distribution of the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2016 identifies malnutrition of mothers and children even ahead of unprotected sex and high levels of air pollution as the most relevant, influential risk factor for endangering the health on the Ivory Coast.
