Fighting Malnutrition and malnutrion-related diseases amongst Infants in Eastern Uganda

Short description

Digging deep into the means we can end the problem of malnutrition-related diseases that have continued to multiply day by day in most parts of Uganda through research, provision and sensitization.

The problem we aim to solve

Provision of best alternatives or forms in which foods can be consumed by young people and breastfeeding mothers to ensure that malnutrition is put to an end.

We chose this because the reasons why there is malnutrition is not because of hunger or famine but food is present but the individuals lack knowledge of value addition and best ways of preparation/mixing which leads to imbalance of nutrients in the diet. We achieve our goals by agro processing since we are agro processing Engineers.

Our solution

Domestic/ home processing of foods produced locally by the individuals using cheap methods and prototypes we make ourselves like blenders, egg crushers, vegetable mixers, etc.

The innovativeness of our approach

Improvement of the present methods of food processing so that they can be afforded by the lower class of people also. Like alternatives for electric blenders with manual blenders and sieve method of extraction.

Technologies and Methods

We mainly use our local materials to meet the problems of the needy, cheap machines that consume less power, solar driven equipment, and manually operated machines.

Potential Partners

Potential partners include the national agricultural research organization, the Ugandan Ministry of Health, food and agriculture organizations, NAADS etc.
