Elimination of Hunger and Malnutrition through Softening of the Current Economic System

Short description

Give hunger no chance with free Food!

Which problem do I/we aim to solve ‐ and why?

Your information that every 5 seconds a child dies of hunger, has moved me deeply. Thus, I want to offer a concept in the following, which could vanquish hunger. However, a strong cooperation between policy makers and the food industry is required to effectively implement this plan.

My/Our idea for a solution

Zambia is a tropical country. In another tropical country, notably the Philippines, I was able to see for myself a plentiful food supply, which was to be found everywhere. And yet there is hunger in this country. Why? The population is poor and many people cannot afford the needed foodstuff. Therefore I think that one can compare this country with Zambia and assume a sufficient food supply as given in this country. Thus, the problem remains the lack of affordability of the food needs.

Therefore this is my suggestion: food will be provided free of charge throughout the Zambian population. As compensation for their financial losses food retailers and producers shall have free access to all economic goods and services within the country and are also exempt from taxes and other charges. This will initially require strong persuasive efforts. We would have to convince the incumbent policymakers so that it is ensured that people of the food industry will be exempt from charges. If the negotiations on the national level fail, we should seek for partnerships at regional and local level.

Why is my/our solution an innovative idea and tackles the challenge from a new
perspective

Whether it is innovative and novel, I cannot say. Even in earlier times barter trade was used, which may be regarded as predecessor of my idea. The difference is that now own product do not need to be offered in order to purchase foodstuffs. The procurement is unconditional and provided that the acquirer himself offers a service or distributes a product, these may be used or acquired by food retailers and producers without any conditions as well.

How is my/our idea feasible?

Through advocacy.

Two possible ways could be available:

1. Politicians are convinced of the idea. The government subsequently adopts a law, which ensures the free availability of foodstuff and creates compensatory mechanisms for the financial losses of the food industry.

2. At the local level economic operators are convinced that food is free of charge for everyone and that for retailers and producers of foodstuff everything else is also made freely available. The downside would be that there are many to convince and at the refusal of individuals the whole system could be jeopardized. Therefore I would suggest this proposal as subsidiary to the first one.

Which methods and channels do I/we want to utilise?

The instrument is indifferently. It is merely important to establish meetings with key officials in any way to convince them verbally of the herein outlined idea.

What’s my/our expected outcome and improvement?

An improvement to the economic situation of all people. The poor receive a comprehensive food supply and food producers can live without any money within Zambia.

What's my/our budget and which partners I/we would expect to be valuable

If the ideas are to be implemented by myself, I would need board and lodging in Zambia and if necessary money to cover my travels within the country to reach my interlocutors. Also, a telephone and internet connection would need to be provided in order to make appointments. That would be all.
